at work: Pastel Palette

One of my recent projects at Ruche was styling our Pastel Palette feature. We've all been getting so excited thinking about spring, especially when it comes to pretty pastel colors! Just because spring is technically a few months away doesn't mean we can't start incorporating lighter colors into our wardrobes now. I think that having a balance of pastels with darker colors, or neutrals, is key to tying the seasons together. Here are a couple of my favorite looks from the shoot:

look book: all that glitters is sequins

Yep, I was in shorts one day and then rainboots the next. One thing some of you may know is that I loooove the rain! I'm pretty much obsessed with it and anytime there's even the slightest chance of rainfall {even 10%} I get very giddy! Such is the story of Saturday. When I saw it drizzling outside my bedroom window I quickly planned on wearing my rainboots that I got three years ago and have worn a sad amount of times. Of course within a couple hours the skies were clear and I just looked like the biggest fool for traipsing around in galoshes. Oh well, you win some you lose some.

the newest member of the Delightful Dozen

I love this new trend in "animal" prints. There are the cutest blouses and dresses with ducks, elephants, even horses, floating about that remind us these prints aren't just for little ones under 5. I love this top with the birds and every time I look down I can't help but smile! Now if only they could teach me how to fly :)

sundays at the dog park

One thing I love about the weekends, besides being able to sleep in and that whole 'you don't have to go to work thing,' is taking Ginger to the dog park. They say a child's excitement is contagious, and that's exactly how I feel about Ginger, my puppy child's, thrill once we round that corner and she knows dog heaven is minutes away. She starts this crazy whimpering that just makes you laugh and you tell her to settle down, thinking she knows what that even means, and she jumps out of the car ready to make some dog and human friends. Matthew and I throw the ball to her {my aim is the worst}, she runs to fetch it as fast as her four legs will carry her, she meets some pals {Jasper is her favorite}, and always comes back to check in with "Mom and "Dad."

I love this little blueboo of mine!

goodbye angeli caffe

Wednesday night Matthew and I mourned the closing of one of our favorite LA restaurants, Angeli Caffe. We went there on some of our first Los Angeles dates and it's been a favorite for delicious and affordable Italian food. The restaurant has been around for 27 years which makes the closing even more sad. We'll always remember you Angeli!

look book: ruffles and lace

This has probably been the longest I've worn my glasses ever! It's almost been 10 days nonstop and while I like that I don't have to clean my contacts each night, it's becoming a little much for me. I've been taking these non-preservative eye drops and I'm hoping that over the weekend I can transition back to my contacts. I just like the freedom of being able to wear my glasses when I want, and not being told by a doctor that it's a "must." Moderation is a good thing, though, so I'm sure I'll be switching back and forth every now and again.

I think I've only done one post with my glasses on {here} but you're going to be seeing some more over the next few weeks. My eye doctor says I have extremely dry eyes and until I can get them under control with some antibiotics and eye drops I'll have to hold off on wearing my contacts. I'm not too crazy about it but it's my only option right now, considering I'm pretty blind otherwise. I think I'll need to get some new cute frames if I'm going to be going four eyes for awhile.

I never think it's too soon to be wearing pink. Yes, technically it's winter and pink is a spring/summer color, but it's one of my favorites. It's also been insanely hot in LA this past week, so it really feels like a whole different season. Would you believe that it was 80 degrees yesterday? Yep, it's true. Sad, but true. I'm hoping we'll have a delayed "winter" full of lots of rain!

I love how monogrammed things have been getting back into style over the past year or so. It's going to feel weird with no holiday this weekend. I was getting used to all the excitement these past two weeks.

Running errands the past couple of days I've been in jeans and this comfy sweater. One of the girls I work with had a similar one and I was determined to find something like it. I was killing time walking through Forever21 when I saw this one that was almost identical. Even though it wasn't in my size I had to get it! I don't regret it in the least because it's like walking around with a big blanket wrapped around you all day. Maybe not the best idea to wear this to work since I might be tempted to take a nap, though!

Matthew and I celebrated New Years with our friends Eden and Zan! We ate sweets, watched the ball drop, threw balloons up in the air and set off poppers! It was the perfect way to ring in the New Year!

Looking towards this year ahead, and reflecting on this past year, it's impossible to not make some resolutions for myself. As some of you know, last year's year of little resolutions didn't work out so well. In my defense, it was a huge year for me and life got a little too busy. Still, I wish it was something I was able to work at harder. So, for 2012, I would like to work on things that I know will improve my quality of life and make me a little happier {and more sane}. Here are a few:

manage my time better

put family time first

take more breaks during the day

make my health a priority

plan fun trips with Matthew

no snoozing!

I'm excited for all that's ahead this year and I'm going to try to face each day with a clear perspective and a smile!

To say that 2011 was an amazing year would be a major understatement. It was life-changing, emotional, and full of memories that I will hold onto for the rest of my life! In chronological order, here are my top ten from 2011:

2. Going to Miami with my best friend Lizzie and meeting the Refinery29 team

3. Getting married to Matthew in May!!! {This one obviously takes the cake for a lifetime!}

7. Taking Ginger to the dog beach for the first time

9. Getting an incredible job and then being featured on Ruche's front page

10. Going to Santa Ynez with two of our closest friends in December

Here's to a new year, full of more adventures and precious memories!

2011 outfits in review

I really had fun getting dressed this past year. In some ways it was a challenge because I didn’t buy many new things because of wedding expenses, but I liked that I was able to rework different items into multiple outfits. Sometimes Matthew would be like, “Didn’t you just wear that the other day? and other times, “I’ve never seen that skirt before!,” when, actually, yes, he had! I experimented a little more with colors and different prints, yet I feel like it all reflected my personal style. I’m excited to see how this next year will affect me sartorially.

day trip to santa ynez

One thing I love about living in Los Angeles is how close we are to so many great cities and towns. Two hours from San Diego and two hours from Santa Barbara is not bad at all! The other weekend Matthew and I decided to go on a little day trip to Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez with our friends Eden and Zan {who we love soo much!}. We had the best time going to some wineries and exploring the cute little towns. We also had the best dinner ever at Eden's favorite place American Flatbread. She's been telling me about it since last year so I was so happy to finally check it out. They have the best pizza ever!! They source the freshest ingredients and it's made in a wood fire oven. Delicious! Here are some photos from our little getaway.

This past weekend was so much fun. I'm really loving layering button-ups under sweaters and making them more girly {less tomboyish} with a pretty necklace. It's a little more me. It's also fun to mix and match with different prints, like plaids and florals. One thing that I think helps is if they're in the same color family, in this case color family blue. It makes it work a little more seamlessly and you avoid those stares of "what the heck is she wearing?!" although I'm sure I've received those before..

One thing that I love about this time of year is making time for family and friends. My close group of girlfriends {Lizzie, Hanna and Pauline} and I have a yearly tradition of going to an Italian restaurant in Pasadena for dinner each December. It's always something to look forward to and every year we sit around the table and talk for hours. It's weird to think about where we were in previous years and where we'll be in the future. {Like last year we were talking about the upcoming wedding!} One thing I'm grateful for is that we'll always be friends and always keep this fun tradition.

at work: Playing Dress Up with Ruche!

One fun thing about my job is coming up with cool, different features for the site. Since it's the holidays we thought it would be fun to show how you can incorporate accessories into multiple outfits. So if you don't have money to buy a whole new winter wardrobe, you can at least look to these 10 pieces to transform an outfit. When Ruche asked me to model this feature, though, as well as style it, I can't exactly say I jumped up and down. You see, while I do take photos for my blog all the time, there is something so different about standing in front of a white background with a stable camera. And playing model, changing poses every 5 seconds, doesn't come that naturally to me. Also Matthew wasn't there! So I was a little bit nervous. But luckily I work with the coolest and sweetest people who made me feel so natural in front of the camera. It was a weird experience styling myself and modeling for the shoot but it was a lot fun! And thank you Liz for your amazing modeling tips!

One thing that's really fun about being married {besides living with your favorite person in the whole wide world} is being able to raid your husband's closet. Instead of the boyfriend cardigan, this is the husband cardigan. Serious business, friends. It is the most comfy thing ever and I borrow it all the time. In fact, putting it on the other day, I found my lipstick tube in the pocket! Bet Matthew's glad he didn't pull that out in public! Embarrassing! He's not that into borrowing my stuff. Just a one way street :)

One thing that's hard about adjusting to winter is leaving some of my favorite summer clothes behind. This sleeveless maxi/midi dress was one of my favorites to wear during warm summer evenings with a pair of flat sandals. I felt like with a pair of booties and a sweater this would work for the end of fall too, but, truth me told, I froze my butt off at nighttime. Yes, it does get cold here! I promise :) Maybe tights and a thicker sweater next time?

Mustard yellow is one of my favorite Fall colors! I love how vibrant the color is and how it can make a basic outfit stand out without being too crazy. I had a certain outfit picked out for Thanksgiving but after being in the car for over 4 hours driving down to San Diego {it should only take 2!} I decided comfy was best. I threw on some heels and was ready to eat!

diy: frame + pegboard = jewelry board

Moving into our apartment has been so much fun! I have loved decorating it and making it our own. One big thing to get used to was merging my closet with Matthew's. We lucked out because our closet is a walk-in {small, but still a walk-in}. so he gets one side and I get the other. At the end of the closet is an empty wall and I wasn't sure if I should hang a photo there or what. Then, realizing the hassle of leaving my closet every morning in search of a certain necklace, I had an idea! I decided to make a jewelry organizer that could hang on that wall so while I was getting dressed I could easily pick out the perfect accessory!

Here's how I made it:

Ingredients
one frame {my brother and I found this one for $2 at a garage sale}
one piece of pegboard {you can find it at a local hardware store and if you're nice they'll even cut to your specific measurements}
paint of choice
pegboard hooks {also found at local hardware store}
a hammer and nails

Directions
Paint the frame with your color of choice. {I chose a baby blue}. You can spraypaint the pegboard if you like, or leave it brown. I wanted to make it into a gold glitter board. Allow to dry overnight.

Fit pegboard into frame and adjust into place. My frame had prongs on the back, which made it easy.

Hammer a nail into the wall to hang new jewelry board. Fit pegboard hooks into the holes and tada! start hanging your favorite necklaces!

So easy right?! I'm proud that this was my first DIY in the apartment!

These J.Brand jeans are so much fun! They're made out of a coated denim so it gives them a leather-like appearance. It's a nice alternative to everyday jeans and I love the teal color. It's so unlike anything I have, which makes me like them even more!

The Thanksgiving break was so much fun! Matthew and I went down to see his family, ate a delicious Thanksgiving feast, had a "gobble off"- whoever could make the best gobble, watched the Masterpiece Theatre's miniseries of Emma {for the third time this year..oh I love it so!}, and cooked some of my favorite recipes for Matthew's mom on Friday. Back in LA my mom and I caught up on Vampire Diaries, and we celebrated my Dad's birthday last night at Mozza in LA. Happy Birthday Daddy!! I love you so much!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! This year I feel like I have so much to be thankful for. I am thankful first and foremost for my amazing husband, who is so sweet and wonderful. I can't believe it's our first Thanksgiving together, and our first as a married couple. It's so amazing to spend every day with the person I love most in this world. I'm thankful for my amazing family, my silly and sweet friends, my puppy bear Ginger, and my incredible job. I'm also thankful for all of you, who have become a great part of my lives, who come here and read my posts and share in my life. I'm so thankful for the friendships that I've made with so many of you. I feel lucky to have such kind and supportive people in my life. I'm wishing you all a happy happy Thanksgiving!

This is the first time {and probably last} that I've ever done a post without shoes! I couldn't help getting a few photos in last week after I got my hair and makeup done for an upcoming Ruche tutorial. I knew it wouldn't last through the night, and luckily we have a somewhat empty bedroom since moving back in!

The necklace I'm wearing has become a new favorite! I'm sure many of you know about JewelMint and how amazing it is. These are my Levi's Curve ID jeans that I got at the Lucky Mag + Levi's event a few weeks ago. I was fitted as a Demi Curve and I wanted to find a pair that was comfortable and flattering. I love that these jeans had a slight flare to them, and the front pockets are the perfect touch of 70's retro. I had fun dressing them up with a slight girl meets boy vibe. {It's Mara meets Levi!}

Over the weekend Matthew and I went to check out this little pizzeria cafe in Beverly Hills. The name caught our attention because Pici refers to a hand-rolled pasta that we discovered on our honeymoon. It's a regional specialty of Tuscany and we've been dying to find it since we've been back home. Turns out the pici was authentic and delicious, and the pizza was just as good!

3rd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest

Well it wouldn't be Halloween if we didn't have our annual pumpkin carving contest. This Halloween seemed like such a blur. I had to cancel our Halloween party because of our stupid mold situation {it's spreading, it's gross, and the walls are going to come down..literally!}. I didn't even dress up, which is really sad for someone who loves this holiday. But at least, at least, we had our annual contest! It made me feel like we were able to celebrate a little bit!

recipe: Halloween Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Icing

I hope you all are having a spooky and fun Monday! I wanted to share these AHmazing cupcakes that I made over the weekend! They are chocolate peanut butter goodness and they're so good it should be bad, but it's not {just don't read the ingredients}! All my fellow pb&chocolate lovers must try this recipe and let me know what you think!

Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Icing by Ina Garten {recipe here}

Ingredients

12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
2/3 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk, shaken, at room temperature
1/2 cup sour cream, at room temperature
2 tablespoons brewed coffee
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup good cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Kathleen's Peanut Butter Icing, recipe follows
Chopped salted peanuts, to decorate, optional {I chose Halloween themed sprinkles!}

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line cupcake pans with paper liners.

In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the butter and 2 sugars on high speed until light and fluffy, approximately 5 minutes. Lower the speed to medium, add the eggs 1 at a time, then add the vanilla and mix well. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, sour cream, and coffee. In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. On low speed, add the buttermilk mixture and the flour mixture alternately in thirds to the mixer bowl, beginning with the buttermilk mixture and ending with the flour mixture. Mix only until blended. Fold the batter with a rubber spatula to be sure it's completely blended.

Divide the batter among the cupcake pans (1 rounded standard ice cream scoop per cup is the right amount). Bake in the middle of the oven for 20 to 25 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes, remove from the pans, and allow to cool completely before frosting.

Frost each cupcake with Peanut Butter Icing and sprinkle with chopped peanuts, if desired.

Kathleen's Peanut Butter Icing:

1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 cup creamy peanut butter
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/3 cup heavy cream

Place the confectioners' sugar, peanut butter, butter, vanilla, and salt in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Mix on medium-low speed until creamy, scraping down the bowl with a rubber spatula as you work. Add the cream and beat on high speed until the mixture is light and smooth.

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to go to the Levi's store on Rodeo Drive and check out, as well as get fitted for, their Curve ID collection. The concept is that it's about shape, not size. It was so weird to see this measuring contraption they used but I was amazed at how accurately my fit, well, fit! It was such a fun event put on my Lucky Magazine and I loved seeing some of my blogging friends, and making new ones!

I'm loving this skirt! The accordion pleats give it a slightly fancy look but I love that I can dress it down with boots and a sweater. Also wearing my pretty new David Yurman bracelet. I've never had such a fancy piece of jewelry and instead of letting it rot away in a jewelry box I'm trying to wear it as an everyday piece. Good thing it gets with mostly everything!

I had such a fun weekend that it's sad to see it go! I hung out with Matthew in Malibu on Saturday for a work event and then I drove to Riverside to spend the rest of the weekend with my best friend Lizzie. We watched/fell asleep during a movie, played with her dog Talula, went home shopping {fell back in love with the amazingness of Marshalls and Cost Plus!}, and had the best all you can eat sushi experience- good sushi, $20, and I didn't get stuffed! I'm also madly in love with Lizzie's apartment and now I'm inspired to get mine together before the end of the year. We can do it!

One of my favorite new things to do is add knots to my outfits. I do it with my t-shirts {love it off to the side}, my long skirts, and now button-ups. I'm guilty of succumbing to this trend because it's just too cute! I love how it gives such an effortless feel to any outfit. What do you guys think of this look? Would you do it?

Funny story about these shoes: I saw them years ago around the holidays and wanted to get them because they were such a good price. I didn't want to impulse shop so I decided to think about them. The next day I went back because I couldn't stop thinking about them. On the night I was going to meet Matthew for the first time with some friends, I wore them! I'm thinking it's because of these shoes that he fell in love with me :) Well, maybe it helped?? Regardless I'll never ever ever get rid of these shoes, nor will I forget about them!

Yay for the weekend! I desperately need to sleep in. I've been getting way too little sleep over the past week.

look book: pumpkin patch

I have been wanting to go to a pumpkin patch for years! And when I say pumpkin patch I mean a real pumpkin patch, not one of those converted parking lots with straw on the ground. I want to go to a big, beautiful field and pick a big orange pumpkin and cut it right from the vines. In LA a real pumpkin patch is almost impossible to find, but I put Matthew to the test to do some research and he found the perfect place. Of course it ended up being a little outside of LA {yes, a whole county north}, but we found it nonetheless and had the best time picking out our pumpkins! Our yearly pumpkin carving competition is coming up and I need the perfect one to win :)

I love the color of this dress! It's so pretty and reminds me so much of the fall season. I've said it before but I'll say it again, this is my favorite season by far! recipe: crab cakes with homemade tartar sauce

Whenever my mom seems crab cakes on a menu she'll always order it because she knows it's good. They can be tricky to make and some people don't have the patience for them. I think I've also developed this same tendency to order crab cakes when I see them, although when I got a craving for them recently I decided to try making them myself. Of course I turned to Ina because as I always say, "Ina knows best." She provides the most straightforward recipes that turn out being majorly impressive and satisfying. This one is no exception! If you like crab cakes then you will definitely love these!

Ina Garten's Crab Cakes (she made them bite sized, I made them humungous!}

Ingredients

2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
3/4 cup small diced red onion (1 small onion)
1 1/2 cups small diced celery (4 stalks)
1/2 cup small diced red bell pepper (1 small pepper)
1/2 cup small diced yellow bell pepper (1 small pepper)
1/4 cup minced fresh flat-leaf parsley
1 tablespoon capers, drained
1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (recommended: Tabasco)
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons crab boil seasoning (recommended: Old Bay)
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 pound lump crabmeat, drained and picked to remove shells
1/2 cup plain dry bread crumbs
1/2 cup good mayonnaise
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
2 extra-large eggs, lightly beaten
For frying
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup olive oil

Directions

Place the 2 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons oil, onion, celery, red and yellow bell peppers, parsley, capers, hot pepper sauce, Worcestershire sauce, crab boil seasoning, salt, and pepper in a large saute pan over medium-low heat and cook until the vegetables are soft, approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Cool to room temperature. In a large bowl, break the lump crabmeat into small pieces and toss with the bread crumbs, mayonnaise, mustard, and eggs. Add the cooked mixture and mix well. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Shape into bite-sized crab cakes.

Heat the butter and olive oil for frying over medium heat in a large saute pan. Add the crab cakes and fry for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, until browned. Drain on paper towels; keep them warm in a 250 degree oven and serve hot.

Tartar Sauce to go with it!

Ingredients

1/2 cup good mayonnaise
2 tablespoons small-diced pickles or cornichons
1 tablespoon Champagne or white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon capers
1 teaspoon coarse-grained mustard
Pinch kosher salt
Pinch freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Place all the ingredients in a food processor or mini chopper fitted with a steel blade and pulse several times until the pickles are finely chopped and all the ingredients are well mixed but not pureed.

One color I'm really loving for fall is deep teal. There's something romantic and magical about it. Maybe it reminds me of the ocean, but when I saw this wall in our neighborhood I knew I had to plan the perfect outfit for it. {I get inspiration in weird places haha}. Ruche's Fall Lookbook launched today and oh my gosh I can not tell you guys how excited I've been about it.

I was soo happy with how this shoot turned out. Everything really came together. The model was incredible,

the photography was perfect, the locations were awesome and I thought the clothes looked pretty good too,

if I say so myself :) Narrowing down from over 50 photos to 12 {you're welcome!} was a challenge

but here are my most favorite looks.

I'm still loving these bright red shorts. I'm trying to transition them into the new season with fall clothes and my favorite oxfords. As much as I love the start of the fall season I always feel like I didn't get to wear enough skirts, shorts, and dresses. Obviously I know I did but moving certain items to the back of my closet makes me start to miss them a bit. So until we're really immersed into a colder season I'm going to try to mix and match as much as I can...and hope it doesn't rain!

recipe: tortellini with roasted butternut squash and mushrooms

Tortellini with Roasted Butternut Squash and Mushrooms

INGREDIENTS
1 small butternut squash, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
6 oz cremini mushrooms cut into quarters
1/4 cup fresh sage leaves
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound tortellini pasta
2 ounces Parmesan cheese, grated

DIRECTIONS
Preheat over to 450 degrees. Toss squash with mushrooms, safe leaves, oil and some salt and pepper. Roast, tossing midway, for about 20 minutes, or until tender.

Cook the tortellini according to the package. Reserve some pasta water just in case before draining. Add cooked tortellini to pan, add roasted vegetables and half of parmesan cheese. Toss with a little more olive oil if needed. Plate and serve with sprinkled cheese on top.

This is one of the easiest recipes but it's so good! Butternut squash is rich and delicious and I love how it reminds me of fall. Yesterday was LA's first rain of the season and I loved it so much, but for some reason it really had me missing last fall. I am such a nostalgic person {to a fault} and I couldn't help thinking about how I missed making tea on rainy mornings and going on cold afternoon walks with Ginger. It was a perfect season with so many exciting things going on, including the early stages of planning the wedding. I have to remind myself that this season will be amazing too. Maybe more so now that we're in our new apartment. Still have to get it together though. There may or may not be unpacked boxes that I've been neglecting to deal with...

Last night I went to a screening of the new movie Dirty Girl with my friend Eden. I haven't been to the movies in soo long so it was really nice to just sit in a theater and take my mind off things for a few hours. What made it even better was that the movie was really good! It's about a troubled girl who sets off on an adventure to meet the father she's never met with a boy from school who is dealing with troubles of his own. They're a pair of misfits but end up becoming friends and it was soo sweet. It was super emotional and heartwarming. I laughed and cried. Those are the best movies right?

good food festival

A couple Sundays ago Matthew and I went to the Good Food Festival in Santa Monica with my parents. It was a food festival and conference, with food demonstrations and lectures ranging from growing your own fruits and vegetables, preserving and pickling, and becoming a farmer. Matthew was interested in the last one! I especially loved going to Nancy Silverton's lecture. She's the co-founder and head baker of LaBrea Bakery {that's all over the place now}, and also owns Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza {my favorite artisan pizza place in LA..remember this post?}. Anyways, she showed us how to make three of her favorite summer salads and I pre-ordered her Mozza cookbook almost immediately after the event! It was so fun to spend a bright and sunny afternoon walking around, tasting local foods and eating at the food trucks. I love food! nom nom nom

I especially loved that the Cool Haus truck was there. They make these amazing ice cream sandwiches with your choice of cookie + your choice of ice cream + an edible wrapper. Such a genius idea by the way! My sandwich was chocolate chip cookies with peanut butter ice cream {of course}. It's my favorite combo ever! The.best!

look book: beating the season

LA has been such a tease with these cold mornings leading into these hot days. I am so ready for fall and all I want to do is wear houndstooth, plaid, wool... hmm what other fall textures are there? Anyways, I end up sweating during the afternoons {gross!} but feeling all fall for 5 minutes every morning is almost worth it. I might not be able to do a full fall transition right now but little by little I'm getting there! Especially with my cute new Fall booties!

I might be able to blame the West Coast with being behind in the season but I'm blaming myself on being behind in the times. Let me explain. Did you know that there's an iPhone 5 coming out? I'm guessing most of you will be like, "Of course. I live in 2011," but I had no idea. Like, no idea! I didn't even know it was a possibility, maybe because I'm still stuck in 3G world, but it pretty much blew my mind. I'm thinking of ways to convince Matthew to let me get it. My phone doesn't hold a battery, the photos are so terrible, it will make me a better wife blah blah blah. The only thing is that he ups me with a "I don't even have an iPhone," emphasis on the "I." It's going to be a battle. Wish me luck.

I love wearing sweaters over dresses! It gives the outfit such a different look. I love the print on this skirt and thought it would be fun to pair it with this thick orange sweater. It's crazy how mixing and matching a dress with sweaters/tops or skirts can make a piece so much more versatile by looking like a separate.

You know those weekends where you have a huuuge To Do list and you don't really think you can get it all done, but yet you try? Well, that was our weekend. Except we actually got a lot done, especially on Saturday. Then we got a little lazy.. Saturday night we wanted to just relax and watch a movie but we sold our coach earlier in the week. What to do, what to do? With some genius thinking on Matthew's part we blew up an air mattress and put tons of blankets and pillows on it. It was soo comfortable because it felt like we were watching a movie in bed, but we were in the living room! I baked these massive, cafe-style, chocolate chip cookies {a new recipe} and we watched So I Married an Axe Murderer. It's part of Matthew's plan to make me watch all these funny moves that were slightly before my time. It was really funny and I'd definitely recommend it if any of you haven't seen it.

Lucky Magazine's Style Competition: Recap

Over the weekend I had the incredible opportunity to participate as a featured blogger in Lucky Magazine's Styling Competition with Tacori Jewelry and Bloomingdales. As I mentioned yesterday we had 4 different looks to style--Menswear Mod, Fabulously Feminine, Layered Luxe, and Glamour Girl. My favorite look by far was the Fabulously Feminine look..I want to wear that outfit soo badly!! Tacori's jewelry was such an amazing addition to each look.

Menswear Mod: I wanted to do something a little different from the black/white tuxedo looks so I decided to give it a pop of color with an blue DVF skirt.

Fabulously Feminine: My favorite look! I love the hot pink blouse with the tangerine high-waisted trouser pants. I think the camel colored coat gives the bright colors I nice neutral balance.

Layered Luxe: Sequin Vince skirt with blue Rebecca Taylor blouse peaking out of a chunky sweater

Glamour Girl: red skirt, Marc by Marc Jacobs blouse and some faux fur

look book: forever a girly girl

Over the weekend I participated in a Lucky Magazine styling competition with Tacori and Bloomingdales. It was such a fun opportunity and I'll post more about it tomorrow. I was a little nervous, though, because we had to style 4 different looks- Menswear Mod, Fabulously Feminine, Layered Luxe, and Glamour Girl. The only one I wasn't as nervous about was Fabulously Feminine since I'd consider myself to be a very girly girl. I love dresses, heels, polka dots, florals, anything that makes me go, "aw!" This outfit is definitely one of my favorites!

I'm loving how cool our beach town gets in the evenings. I have a feeling I'll make good use of my coats this fall and winter..thank goodness! I hope you all had a great weekend!

our wedding: formals

Some things that kept us sane while planning the wedding were weekly date nights, wedding off limits conversations, and an amazingly supportive group of family and friends. You all will be pleased to know that I did not turn into a bridezilla! I was calm and collected the whole time {sans morning of}, and my bff/MOH Lizzie was actually the one to turn into what she dubbed a "MOHzilla."

Another huge factor in keeping me sane was all of you. Seriously, and I mean seriously, I am so grateful for all of your support. Having Wedding Wednesday posts was a way to keep all my thoughts organized and getting your thoughts and opinions about hair, dresses, guys attire, song choices, etc. was invaluable. I appreciated your advice, experience and knowledge more than you know. I think that's why I didn't go all crazy, because I had all of you there. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of our wedding and letting me share these photos with you. I love you guys!! I hope these photos weren't too much over the course of the week. I learned that I'm not the best photo editor because it was so hard for me not to include all 800 photos! {I luckily restrained myself though}.

our wedding: DIY and Details

One thing I kept hearing for months after the wedding was how personal and unique the whole day was. It makes me so happy because I definitely put a lot of effort and time into the planning process. I was so lucky to be in a situation where I was working part time throughout the engagement. I was really able to do so many crafts and DIY projects, that I might not have had time for otherwise, which ended up saving money, and also being a lot of fun! I remember staying up soo many nights saving inspiration photos {pre-Pinterest}, making venue and photographer spreadsheets, and planning my craft schedule for the weekends. Here are some detail photos with descriptions of the DIYs I did with the help of my amazing Mom and friends {and Matthew of course}!

our wedding: the reception

While my favorite part of the wedding will always be the ceremony, I looved the reception! I did so many DIY crafts so to see it all come together was really wonderful. It was actually so hard to step back and not be involved with setting everything up, considering I was involved with every other step. Luckily I had my amazing friend Eden to help me out and everything looked even better than I could have imagined.

My goal was to have our wedding reflect us as a couple. We chose to have a small wedding with just our family and closest friends. Our guest count was under 100 and I loved that I was able to talk with everyone and also enjoy myself, and dance with Matthew. And, you know how I have a big sweet tooth? Well dessert was a very important part of the reception. We had a cookies and milk bar, a chocolate cake!, homemade caramels as favors, as well as huge lollipops for the kids. You'll see more of the details and crafts tomorrow.

Matthew and I have taken photo booth pictures throughout dating {and still do every time we see one!} so we knew very early on that a photo booth was a must for the wedding. Magnolia Photo Booth made the night soo much fun for everyone! I loved seeing my little cousins get in there as well as my aunts and uncles. We ended the night with a sparkler send-off, which was so fun and romantic. The perfect ending to the perfect day!
