diy: frame + pegboard = jewelry board

Moving into our apartment has been so much fun! I have loved decorating it and making it our own. One big thing to get used to was merging my closet with Matthew's. We lucked out because our closet is a walk-in {small, but still a walk-in}. so he gets one side and I get the other. At the end of the closet is an empty wall and I wasn't sure if I should hang a photo there or what. Then, realizing the hassle of leaving my closet every morning in search of a certain necklace, I had an idea! I decided to make a jewelry organizer that could hang on that wall so  while I was getting dressed I could easily pick out the perfect accessory!

Here's how I made it:

Ingredients
one frame {my brother and I found this one for $2 at a garage sale}
one piece of pegboard {you can find it at a local hardware store and if you're nice they'll even cut to your specific measurements}
paint of choice
pegboard hooks {also found at local hardware store}
a hammer and nails

Directions
Paint the frame with your color of choice. {I chose a baby blue}. You can spraypaint the pegboard if you like, or leave it brown. I wanted to make it into a gold glitter board. Allow to dry overnight.

Fit pegboard into frame and adjust into place. My frame had prongs on the back, which made it easy.

Hammer a nail into the wall to hang new jewelry board. Fit pegboard hooks into the holes and tada! start hanging your favorite necklaces!

------
So easy right?! I'm proud that this was my first DIY in the apartment!

How do you store your jewelry?

look book: sugar coated

These J.Brand jeans are so much fun! They're made out of a coated denim so it gives them a leather-like appearance. It's a nice alternative to everyday jeans and I love the teal color. It's so unlike anything I have, which makes me like them even more!

The Thanksgiving break was so much fun! Matthew and I went down to see his family, ate a delicious Thanksgiving feast, had a "gobble off"- whoever could make the best gobble, watched the Masterpiece Theatre's miniseries of Emma {for the third time this year..oh I love it so!}, and cooked some of my favorite recipes for Matthew's mom on Friday. Back in LA my mom and I caught up on Vampire Diaries, and we celebrated my Dad's birthday last night at Mozza in LA. Happy Birthday Daddy!! I love you so much!!

Have a great Monday everyone!

happy thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! This year I feel like I have so much to be thankful for. I am thankful first and foremost for my amazing husband, who is so sweet and wonderful. I can't believe it's our first Thanksgiving together, and our first as a married couple. It's so amazing to spend every day with the person I love most in this world. I'm thankful for my amazing family, my silly and sweet friends, my puppy bear Ginger, and my incredible job. I'm also thankful for all of you, who have become a great part of my lives, who come here and read my posts and share in my life. I'm so thankful for the friendships that I've made with so many of you. I feel lucky to have such kind and supportive people in my life. I'm wishing you all a happy happy Thanksgiving!

look book: sweet stripes

Pinks and browns are such great color combos {I much prefer them to pink and black}, so this cute
sweater really stuck out to me. It easily dresses up a plain jeans and t-shirt outfit and it also can make a
 work outfit a little more casual. Finding the balance can be tricky sometimes!

I can't believe tomorrow is Thanksgiving! Matthew and I are heading down to San Diego tonight and I can't wait. It will be so nice to just relax for a couple days, spend time with his family, and eat yummy yummy food! I think I need to pull a Joey Tribbiani and wear some maternity pants :)

Have a wonderful holiday US friends!

look book: big girl mary jane

 Too much pink? Never! If only I could convince Matthew to paint a room a blush pink. Since I know he'll never go for it in the bedroom, maybe he'll say yes to the bathroom? I bet if I convinced him it was an accent color, maybe to gray?, he'd believe me!

I'm pretty much obsessed with these mary jane heels! When I was little they were my favorite type of shoe so I love that Nine West redid them in a more grown up style. They are super high but the platform makes them comfortable and easy to walk in. I also think the color is amazing and I love how they stand out. These big girl mary janes might be the perfect ones to dress up a basic black dress around the holidays! It's almost that time, can you believe it?!

look book: barefoot princessa

This is the first time {and probably last} that I've ever done a post without shoes! I couldn't help getting a few photos in last week after I got my hair and makeup done for an upcoming Ruche tutorial. I knew it wouldn't last through the night, and luckily we have a somewhat empty bedroom since moving back in!

The necklace I'm wearing has become a new favorite! I'm sure many of you know about JewelMint and how amazing it is. I love that they give customized recommendations to you each month to help build your "jewelry box." I chose this necklace because I was so intrigued by the concept. The pomander pendant necklace features a small perforated sphere that opens and closes with a magnetic clasp. They said you can put scented cotton inside and the perfume will stay with you all day. I just so happened to have a few last drops of my favorite Michael Kors perfume so I thought it would be the perfect choice. I love that the scent stays with me all day and yet it's not too overwhelming! Go check out JewelMint and see your personalized recommendations!

Have a great weekend everyone!

wedding wednesday: our wedding video!

Ok, technically it's not Wednesday but I was planning on doing this post yesterday but with all the ModCloth excitement I forgot. I've been so excited to share our wedding video with you guys, though. It's so fun to look back on this video and remember May 6th like it was yesterday. I still can't believe we just made our 6 month mark. Time flies when you're in love and having fun :)

ModCloth Blogger of the Moment!

I am incredibly honored to have been chosen to be ModCloth's Blogger of the Moment. Yep, I am still in shock thinking about it. When I was starting my blog back in 2009, I remember looking at ModCloth's Bloggers on the Moment and finding new favorites {that I still love today!}. It's amazing to be included among so many wonderful and inspiring bloggers. And getting a namesake dress was pretty amazing too! Here's how I styled the M Loves M dress:

look book: sequins and stripes

 I love wearing sequins during the holidays and with this outfit I wanted to prove that it doesn't always have to be all dressy.
I thought mixing stripes and sequins would be fun and a little different.

Matthew and I went to visit his family in San Diego this past weekend and it was so nice to hang out and catch up with them. I love seeing my little nieces and nephews and playing with them. Our little niece Olivia wanted to make a book for her Grandma {Matthew's mom} so I drew her pictures of little fawns and she colored them in. It was so incredibly cute. She named the fawn Lucy which I thought was adorable! {When I was little I had a stuffed animal lamb that I named Lucy after Lucille Ball}
